London Restaurant Festival talks to Mike Lucy, chief executive of Company of Cooks, about eating in London.
LRF: What was the last London restaurant you visited?
ML: Roka.
LRF: Describe the best meal you’ve ever had in London.
ML: Recently, at the bar in Terroir with my first boss. I enjoyed the family-like welcome, magnificent scallops (simply grilled) and the wine list. The other was 30 years ago whilst studying; an unforgettable pig’s trotter at La Tante Claire.
LRF: Which restaurants do you rate in your neighbourhood?
ML: The Giaconda Dining Room and Barrafina.
LRF: Which restaurants would you recommend to a tourist with one day to spend in London?
ML: The newly opened Honest Sausage at the front of Kensington Palace.
LRF: Where do you go for a great Sunday roast in London?
ML: The nine-hour slow roasted beef at Table in Brighton is worth an hour’s journey each way. Alternatively, Hix Oyster & Chop House in Smithfield.
LRF: What’s the best coffee shop in London?
ML: Monmouth Coffee Company.
LRF: What’s your favourite London pub or bar?
ML: Vinoteca. It’s relaxed and is great value, with a well-chosen selection of wines and food.
LRF: Which London farmers’ market, food shop or suppliers would you recommend?
ML: Union Hand Roasted Coffee Company.
LRF: Who is your ideal dinner companion?
ML: Jeremy Round – the first journalist to advocate seasonal cookery with an acute knowledge of the subject.
LRF: What do you like to cook the most?
ML: Herb omelette with a touch of Parmesan.
